SUN Awards 2005 Winners Unveiled

The winners of the 2005 SUN Awards were announced at a recent event held at the Circle Club in Manchester . The Best Image award went to John Boyes; the Best Use of Image category was won by Len Grant and Mark Enstone came top in the Best Web Site section.

SUN Awards began as Shot Up North in 1988, an exhibition for Northern based members of AFAEP, the forerunner to the Association of Photographers (AoP). Since then the event has developed into a prestigious competition, with the award winners featuring in a book which is distributed throughout the UK to commissioners of photography.

Three of SUN Award's key administrators, Doug Currie, Tracey Gibbs and Ed Horwich, who have been involved with running SUN for most of its life, have now taken over the responsibility and running of SUN from the AoP. This has led to the formation of a not-for-profit organisation, SUN EXPO Ltd. The new company is aiming to strengthen its links with designers and suppliers within the creative industry and therefore give greater exposure to photographers whose work features in the SUN Awards.

Another of SUN's key objectives is to bring photographers and clients closer together. With this mind, plans are in place to develop the SUN Awards exhibition into a modular format that can be used at more diverse locations and niche markets.

The SUN Awards is open to all northern based professional photographers who specialise in advertising, design, fashion and editorial.
