| Release Date: 31 March 2005 Baby portrait wins national award Mark Ashworth of Dumbleton Photography in Cambridge has been awarded joint first prize in a prestigious national photography competition with a beautiful black and white close-up shot of a baby's face. The image of Isabella Sfakianakis, now aged two, captured the hearts of the judges in the recent Fujifilm Distinctions Awards. Fujifilm's Distinctions Awards are recognised as being one of the most competitive awards in the photographic industry, with over 5,300 entries being received over the past year. Mark explained why he chose this photograph for submission: “I chose to enter this image because of its spontaneity, and emotion. Young children are always best when they are enjoying themselves, as this particular photograph clearly shows. I was thrilled to win such a special award.” Mark was presented with a trophy, a cash prize of £1,000 and £500 in Fujifilm product vouchers at a ceremony held at a recent professional photographic fair at the NEC in Birmingham. He was one of only four photographers in the whole of the UK to receive a Distinction. Isabella's mother Alison was delighted to hear of the Award: “We were really pleased with the pictures which were taken as special Christening gifts for Godparents - winning this prize makes them even more special. We were presented with a fantastic framed version which looks great on our wall.” One of the judges was former Fleet Street photographer Dr Mike Maloney OBE; he had this to say of the judging: “I've always been impressed with the Distinctions Awards and this year was no exception.
