FDIS shop re-fit reaps rewards

Hallmark Photography, the Fujifilm Digital Imaging Service (FDIS) store in Calne, has undergone a major refurbishment and the results have been immediate, with increased footfall and more camera sales in the first six weeks following the changes than in the previous 12 months.

The owners, Kevin and Jayne Hall have increased their sales area and replaced the old central counter with a glass fronted display unit. Kevin explains how these changes have affected business; "We've created a much more user-friendly sales space which gives our customers much more room for browsing. We now notice people stay in our store longer, rather than just dashing straight to the counter and out again. We also improved the lighting in the shop and we now have a lighter, brighter more modern store which everyone (including the staff and ourselves) seems to love."

He continued: "A key part of the changes was the resiting of our kiosks, they are now much more visible - so even when the store is closed, passers-by can see we have them here. Sometimes tough trading conditions call for investment and the signs are we made the right decision by having the work done - as illustrated by the dramatic increase in camera sales. We're hoping to have some kind of open day/family event in the next month or so to make sure everyone knows we've changed for the better."

Peter Wigington Fujifilm's marketing manager for Photo Imaging commented: "What a great story! It just proves that, scary as it may seem in our current economic climate, investing in your business can and does pay dividends. I hope that Kevin & Jayne's experience would encourage not just our FDIS members but any photo retailer to look more closely at their own businesses with an eye to what can be done to make their customers' shopping experience that little bit easier and more fun."
