FDIS Lab hosts fun day to promote business

Frost Digital Imaging Centre, a Fujifilm Digital Imaging Service (FDIS) member in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands has shown that injecting some fun into the marketing mix can really pay dividends.

The shop hosted a FDIS Fun Day on the last Saturday before Christmas. As Frost's operations director, Wendy Gray explained, the timing of the event: "We've held fun days previously to tie-in with new equipment we've bought and as we've just installed the new Fujifilm DL410 Dry Minilab we thought it would be a great time to host our latest event. We got fully behind the 'Go Green' message - this meant we could push both the environmental benefits of using a dry lab, together with promoting Fujifilm's products."

Wendy continued: "We gave out goody bags containing discount vouchers and also held a lucky dip where customers could win a variety of Fujifilm items like lanyards, pens and diaries. The free prize draw also proved popular and has helped us build up our database. Finepix Fred, the Fujifilm mascot, was in attendance handing out sweets and balloons and proved a great hit with the young (and not so-young). We all had a great time and I think our staff enjoyed it as much as the customers!"

The fun day was promoted via wallet stuffers and in-store posters. The result was a packed shop and a 100% increase in customer numbers compared to the same day in 2008. A 'one-day-only' special offer on Fujifilm digital cameras saw the shelves empty quickly as people snapped-up Christmas presents. The store offered all customers free enlargements which also proved a popular gift option - together with the add-on sale of a frame.

Peter Wigington, Fujifilm's business manager for the FDIS group was keen to praise the efforts of Frosts: " Wendy and her team have shown that business development need not be boring and that  engaging with the local community can have a really positive effect on turnover. We're very lucky to work with such pro-active retailers and the FDIS team is always happy to assist with such marketing activities."
