AdApt celebrates first 10 years


Innovative York-based ad creation company Robertson Smith Associates is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its main brand - AdApt.

Company founder David Smith has worked for regional newspaper groups in the UK and has been Creative Director with advertising agencies. He spotted a gap in the market when he realised that design and pre-press departments in newspapers often couldn't fulfil the need from the sales department for ad examples to be produced quickly.

The idea behind AdApt is simple. Template ads including headlines, body copy, illustrations and photographs are supplied to regional newspapers and these ads are adapted to help their advertisers. This often leads to an increase in advertising revenue for the publication.

AdApt is a true success story. Its products are used in five countries - UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US - and over the 10 years the company has designed over 10,000 different ads. Out of the UK’s 2,500 newspapers, over 50% use AdApt campaigns.

When a company signs up with AdApt they receive a CD-Rom containing 16 ad campaigns every two months. They are also given access to an archive of over 1,700 ads. These ads cover well over 100 different sectors, from Alternative Medicine to Windows. In addition to the ads, subscribers also have access to over 900 high-resolution images from the AdApt photo library and 30 different fonts for use in the campaigns.

Whilst the last 10 years has seen considerable product development and growth for AdApt, David Smith is keen to look to the future, "This year promises to be our best yet, we have a number of exciting new products we will be launching over the next few months and I’m sure these will be well received by our existing clients as well as helping to attract new business"
